Mataram, July 7, 2025 — The Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Mataram (FEB Unram), held a general lecture titled “System Dynamics for Economic Research: From Complexity to Clarity” on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the FEB Unram Auditorium. The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Ir. Irman Firmansyah, S.Hut, M.Si, M.Sc, a lecturer at IPB University (Bogor Agricultural University) and an expert in system dynamics.

The lecture was moderated by Dr. Hairil Anwar, S.Hut., M.P., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mataram, and officially opened by the Dean of FEB Unram, Dr. Ihsan Ro’is, ST., M.Si.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ihsan Ro’is emphasized that the lecture was part of FEB Unram’s continuous effort to enrich the academic insights of its academic community in addressing increasingly complex economic analysis in today’s digital era.

“System dynamics is a highly relevant approach to understanding economic issues through a holistic and dynamic lens. Through this lecture, we hope that faculty leaders, lecturers, and students can develop a systems-thinking mindset in analyzing multidimensional economic problems,” he stated.

Following the opening remarks, the agenda continued with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between FEB Unram and IPB University, marking the beginning of a strategic collaboration in research and academic development—especially in the field of system dynamics. This milestone was followed by a group photo session and the presentation of a token of appreciation to the speaker.

During the core session, Dr. Irman Firmansyah delivered an insightful presentation on how system dynamics can be applied to model and understand complex dynamics in economic systems, ranging from sustainable development challenges, public policy planning, to natural resource management.

This event is significant as it introduces system dynamics as an increasingly vital method in modern economic research. By adopting this approach, academics and students are better equipped to simplify the complexity of economic systems into structured and solution-oriented models, enabling the formulation of more targeted and effective policy recommendations.

The general lecture was attended by department heads, lecturers, and students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Mataram, and is expected to serve as a starting point for a stronger academic collaboration between Unram and IPB, particularly in the development of innovative and interdisciplinary economic research methodologies.
