FEB Unram and NTB Regional Parliament Hold Public Hearing on Draft Regional Regulation for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers from NTB
Mataram, June 23, 2025 — The Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Mataram (FEB Unram), in collaboration with the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of West Nusa Tenggara Province, held a public hearing and socialization event for the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) from NTB. The event took place on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the FEB Unram Theater Hall and was attended by hundreds of students from various departments across the University of Mataram.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of FEB Unram, Dr. H. Ihsan Ro’is, M.Si., who also delivered opening remarks. In his speech, he expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between academia and the legislative body in raising awareness of public policy issues among students. He emphasized the importance of protecting migrant workers, particularly those from NTB, and encouraged students to take an active role in addressing social and labor-related issues.
This socialization aimed to broaden students’ understanding of the urgent need for regulations that ensure the rights and safety of Indonesian migrant workers. As one of the regions with the highest number of PMI, NTB holds a strategic interest in having a strong and responsive legal framework to support and protect its people.
The main speaker of the event, H. Didi Sumardi, S.H., representing the NTB DPRD, delivered a presentation on the contents, objectives, and legislative process of the proposed regulation. He highlighted the essential role of academia in enriching public policy discourse and invited students to actively contribute constructive ideas and feedback in the formulation of local laws.
Beyond its informative purpose, the event also served as a legal and civic education forum for FEB Unram students. Participants gained insight into how regional policies are drafted and the importance of public participation in democratic processes and social protection efforts.
Through this activity, FEB Unram hopes its students will grow into agents of change who uphold justice, advocate for human rights, and contribute meaningfully to the empowerment and protection of vulnerable communities, especially Indonesian migrant workers from West Nusa Tenggara.
