FEB Unram and SEFB UUM Hold International Community Service at Nipah Beach for Environmental Conservation
North Lombok, October 10, 2024 – The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of the University of Mataram (UNRAM) held an International Community Service program which took place at Nipah Beach, North Lombok Regency. This activity is the result of a collaboration between FEB UNRAM and the School of Economic Finance and Banking (SEFB) of the University of Utara Malaysia (UUM), aiming to support environmental conservation and strengthen cooperation between international institutions.
The event began with a socialization about sea turtle conservation or “tukik,” guided by a local conservation manager. This socialization aims to increase the understanding of participants and the community about the importance of preserving the marine ecosystem, especially protecting turtles, an endangered marine species. The conservation manager provided an in-depth explanation about the turtle life cycle, the various threats they face such as pollution and exploitation, and steps that can be taken to support turtle conservation efforts in the Nipah Beach area.
After the socialization session, the activity continued with the release of hatchlings by participants consisting of students, lecturers, representatives of SEFB UUM, and the local community. The release of these hatchlings is a symbol of a shared commitment to maintaining the sustainability of the marine ecosystem. With great enthusiasm, the participants released the hatchlings into the sea, hoping that the species can survive and thrive in their natural habitat. The collaboration between FEB UNRAM and SEFB UUM through this program is expected to have a positive impact in increasing environmental awareness, while strengthening international academic relations. For students, this activity is also a valuable opportunity to learn directly about conservation and social responsibility, providing real experience in preserving nature. This International Community Service program emphasizes the importance of the role of the younger generation in environmental conservation, as well as building a stronger international network for the common goal of maintaining the balance of nature and marine life.
