International Expert from the Netherlands Shares Global Insights on Sustainable Tourism at FEB Unram

Mataram, April 27, 2026 – The Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Mataram (FEB Unram), held an International Seminar themed “Sustainable, Socially Responsible, and Community-Based Tourism” on Monday (27/4) at the Main Meeting Room of FEB Unram.

The seminar featured Jeannette Biesbroeck from PUM Expert Netherlands as the keynote speaker, presenting insights on sustainable tourism development from an international and professional perspective. The event was attended by dozens of FEB Unram students, particularly from the Diploma III Tourism Study Program, as well as lecturers and academic staff.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of FEB Unram, Dr. Ihsan Ro’is, M.Si. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of international academic activities in broadening students’ perspectives on global tourism issues and sustainable development practices.

During the seminar, Jeannette Biesbroeck discussed several important topics, including sustainable tourism concepts, responsible tourism practices, community-based tourism approaches, local community empowerment, and global perspectives on tourism development. The session highlighted how tourism can be developed sustainably while still prioritizing social responsibility and community welfare.

Participants also gained valuable insights into the importance of involving local communities in tourism development to ensure that economic benefits are distributed more fairly and sustainably.

In addition to the seminar, the event also included the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and an Implementation Arrangement (IA) between PUM Expert Netherlands and FEB Unram as part of strengthening international collaboration in education and tourism development.

Through this activity, FEB Unram continues to demonstrate its commitment to expanding international partnerships while providing students and academics with global learning experiences and perspectives.
