MATARAM – The 63rd Anniversary Committee of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Mataram successfully held a Guest Lecture entitled “Literacy Development: Investment & Future Planning” on Friday, August 28, 2026. In collaboration with PT Pegadaian, this event took place in the Theatre Room, Building C of FEB Unram, starting at 14:00 WITA until completion.

The event, chaired by Dr. Handry Sudiartha Athar, SE., MM., was enthusiastically attended by FEB Unram students. This guest lecture featured Bagus Setiawan as the main speaker who shared comprehensive insights regarding financial literacy and planning.

The main objective of organizing this guest lecture was to improve the financial literacy of FEB Universitas Mataram students, specifically their understanding of the importance of investment and future planning. The event also aimed to encourage the younger generation to start building healthy financial habits early on, while introducing gold as an investment instrument option that can be started with a relatively small nominal amount. Furthermore, the event sought to build awareness that education, competency development, financial management, and investment are integral parts of preparing for the future. Through this understanding, participants were encouraged to be able to set goals, create plans, take consistent actions, and conduct periodic evaluations.

In his presentation, Bagus Setiawan emphasized that the future needs to be prepared from now on, rather than waiting until one has a lot of money. College life is positioned not only to focus on obtaining a degree, but as a form of long-term investment to build knowledge, skills, networks, character, and aspirations. Participants were also guided to build mental preparation and crucial soft skills for the working world, such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership.

Regarding financial strategy, investment was explained as an important way to combat inflation, make assets grow, and achieve future goals such as education or building a business. Specifically, the speaker positioned gold investment as a student-friendly instrument.

An interesting illustration was presented to change students’ consumptive mindsets. The speaker compared the consumptive lifestyle spending of Rp35,000 per day with the habit of saving Rp10,000 in gold per day. The illustration showed that the consistency of saving gold in small amounts can generate an accumulation of funds that become assets, unlike consumptive spending which only drains funds.

To support students’ concrete steps, this guest lecture also introduced the Gold Savings (Tabungan Emas) service through the Tring! by Pegadaian application. Through this secure application supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), students can start investing in gold with a very affordable amount, starting from Rp10,000 or 0.01 grams.

As a follow-up to this activity, students were recommended to immediately set financial goals (short, medium, and long term), create a disciplined spending budget, build an emergency fund, and consistently start the habit of investing from an affordable amount.
