FEB UNRAM Development Economics Study Program Holds ICONES 2024 International Seminar with the Theme Sustainable Development for Past-Pandemic Recovery

The Development Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), University of Mataram, is again holding an international seminar entitled “2nd International Conference On Economic Issues 2024” (ICONES) on Wednesday-Thursday, November 6-7, 2024. This seminar carries the theme “Sustainable Development for Post-Pandemic Recovery: Economic Transformation, Regional Integration, and Tourism Innovation” which aims to discuss how post-pandemic economic recovery can be achieved through sustainable economic transformation, regional integration, and innovation in the tourism sector.

The two-day event was held in a hybrid manner, at the DOME Building of Mataram University and also broadcasted via the Zoom platform to allow for global participation. The seminar was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor 4 of Mataram University, Prof. Akmaluddin, ST., M.Sc.(Eng), Ph.D., who in his remarks stated that activities like this are very important in providing insight to students and the academic community regarding strategic ways that can be taken to accelerate global economic recovery after the pandemic.

ICONES 2024 serves as an international platform that allows experts from various disciplines to gather and discuss various economic issues of global concern. This seminar brings together economists, researchers, academics, policy makers and practitioners from various countries to exchange views and find solutions to the most pressing economic challenges. Through in-depth panel sessions, participants can explore various approaches to post-pandemic economic recovery with a focus on sustainability, regional integration, and innovation in the tourism sector.

The topics raised in this seminar are highly relevant considering the challenges faced by many countries in their efforts to recover their economies impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. With economic transformation as one of the keys to recovery, the seminar also highlighted the importance of cross-country collaboration and tourism sector innovation in accelerating recovery and rebuilding stronger and more sustainable economies.

The 2024 ICONES Seminar also aims to provide broader insights to students, especially in the FEB UNRAM environment, regarding developments in global economic issues. With discussions involving international experts, students are expected to better understand various important aspects of economic transformation, including the importance of adapting to economic changes that occur both locally and globally. In addition, this seminar provides an opportunity for students to be more critical in analyzing the role of tourism in the post-pandemic economy and how this sector can be restored and transformed towards sustainability.

In a broader context, this activity is also part of FEB UNRAM’s commitment to continue to encourage the internationalization of higher education, by holding activities that not only involve domestic experts, but also international experts who have experience and perspectives that can enrich knowledge and academic capacity in the university environment.

By holding this ICONES international seminar, it is hoped that participants will not only gain knowledge about post-pandemic economic issues, but will also be able to apply this knowledge in their academic and professional lives. In addition, this event also opens up opportunities for FEB UNRAM to strengthen its international network, while playing an active role in efforts to find solutions to global economic problems that are very relevant to the current context.

This activity is real evidence of FEB UNRAM’s commitment to advancing economic education that is responsive to global economic developments, as well as providing significant contributions to the development of sustainable solutions that can accelerate post-pandemic economic recovery.
